An original 1943 softcover edition of The Letters of Robert R. Livingston: The Diplomatic Story of the Louisiana Purchase, written by Louisiana historian and bibliophile Edward Alexander Parsons and published by the American Antiquarian Society.

This copy is personally inscribed and signed by Parsons on the title page:

“For Severing Lake / from his friend / E.A. Parsons / May 18 1946.”

Parsons (1878–1962) was one of Louisiana’s great collectors and scholars; his personal library helped shape the Louisiana Collection at Tulane University. This pamphlet was reprinted from the Society’s Proceedings of October 1942 and captures the diplomatic correspondence surrounding the Louisiana Purchase — one of the most consequential moments in early American history.

Details:

  • Publisher: American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, MA

  • Publication year: 1943
