Multi-Point Steel Security Box c1890–1910. Approx. 8" W × 7" D × 5.5" H
Original late-19th to early-20th century mechanical lock box, constructed of heavy steel with pierced panels and a complex multi-point internal locking mechanism. Designed for securing cash, documents, or valuables in shops, institutions, factories, or offices.
This example retains its original working key, and the locking mechanism engages and releases properly. The interior reveals an intact system of levers, rollers, and a central cam plate that simultaneously activates multiple locking points, an excellent demonstration of early industrial security engineering. The top opens in two directions. One way opens seamlessly (pictured) and one opens about half the way.
The pierced steel body reduces weight while maintaining strength and allows visibility of the mechanical components when opened. Unrestored and unaltered, showing honest wear, oxidation, and surface loss consistent with age and use.
