James McNeill Whistler was an American artist active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for his tonalist paintings and printmaking, particularly his etchings and lithographs of Venice and London. Whistler's work often focused on atmospheric effects and subtle color harmonies, influenced by Japanese art and the Aesthetic movement.

This lithograph,  titled "Bead-Stringers, Venice," captures a scene in Venice, Italy, a frequent subject in Whistler's oeuvre. The composition and tonal qualities are characteristic of his printmaking style during this period. Whistler's Venetian prints are highly regarded for their delicate lines and evocative depictions of the city's architecture and daily life.
