This book, "Historic and Antiquarian Scenes of Brooklyn and Its Vicinity," written by T. W. Field and published in 1868, offers a historical perspective on Brooklyn during a period of significant growth and change.
This is a Limited First Edition, with only 110 copies produced—a rare publication, with the last known auction sale dating back to 1927. The book primarily details events from the American Revolution in Kings County, with numerous lithographs depicting buildings in the area that played significant roles during that time. Included is a map of Brooklyn during the Revolutionary War, created by General Jeremiah Johnson. The author, Thomas W. Field, worked as a teacher in Williamsburg and later served as a school principal in Brooklyn. From 1873 to 1881, he held the position of superintendent of public instruction in Brooklyn. In addition to his educational work, Field was also a local historian and the author of multiple books. [Attributes: First Edition, Signed]
This is the ONLY copy that I am aware of that has an inscription by the author.
This very rare copy is signed by the author. It is in excellent condition for it's age. See photos. All illustrations are present and in good condition. The fold out map in the back is also in very good condition with a small split at the bottom of the first fold.
