Up for sale is a stunning 19th / early 20th century bronze figurine of a kneeling winged cherub (putto) holding a lute. Originally designed as a finial or decorative top attachment for an ornate French, Victorian, or Rococo mantel clock or architectural pediment, this heavy piece also works wonderfully as a standalone sculpture. The statue is composed of a heavy and solid cast bronze with as rich dark brown patina and highlights of natural verdigris in the deeper recessed detail, and features the original threaded mounting hole on the underside base where it anchored onto a clock body or pediment frame. Authentic antique pre-owned condition with age-appropriate patina, verdigris oxidation, and minor handling wear. Please inspect all photos closely for complete physical condition.
