This is an antique ember carrier, also known as a fireplace coal scoop or ember tongs, used historically to move hot coals from one fire to another. The piece features a hand-forged iron body with two long tapered legs designed to cradle and lift embers, along with a decorative pierced brass shield at the front. The shield has an ornate cut-out pattern that served both as ventilation and as a heat barrier for the person using it.
The handle is turned hardwood, aged beautifully with a warm patina and signs of long use. The ironwork shows the expected hammer marks and surface wear consistent with 19th–early 20th century blacksmith work.
