For sale is an antique turn-of-the-century (circa 1890s–1910s) Neapolitan style bowlback ("taterbug") 8-string mandolin. Features: - Back: High-grade multi-rib bowl construction (approx. 30+ rosewood/hardwood staves) separated by maple/boxwood string purfling, finished with a scalloped bottom skirt cap and edge binding. - Headstock & Tuners: Birdseye maple veneer headstock face with rear-facing friction/enclosed geared tuners sporting original aged celluloid/bone buttons. - Fretboard & Face: Inlaid fretboard with diamond and butterfly mother-of-pearl position markers; spruce top with oval soundhole surrounded by mother-of-pearl segment rosette rings and a dark celluloid pickguard inlaid with pearl stars. - Tailpiece: Ornate stamped/engraved metal tailpiece.
