This scarce first issue of The University Record (Vol. I, No. 1, January 1902) was published by The Tulane University Press in New Orleans, Louisiana. It served as a quarterly magazine “relating to the Tulane University of Louisiana and its Alumni,” documenting early campus life, academic news, and alumni activities at the turn of the 20th century.

Includes wonderful period advertisements from historic New Orleans businesses such as:

  • I.L. Lyons & Co., Manufacturing Chemists and Wholesale Druggists (Camp & Gravier Streets)

  • Grunewald’s Pianos, Canal Street

  • Adams’ Hats, Dixie Paints, and Stern & Marks, electricians for the Tulane Library

The magazine is bound in its original tan wraps, printed in black, measuring about 9 inches tall. Condition shows typical wear from age with some edge tears and a small chip at the top edge of the front cover, but interior pages remain clean and legible.

Early Tulane publications are rarely found in any condition, especially this inaugural issue from 1902 — an excellent piece for collectors of Louisiana history, university ephemera, or New Orleans advertising.
